Sonic Cultures - Black History Month 2026

This year’s Black History Month theme explores music, spoken poetry and other sonic forms as ways to remember history, celebrate culture and express identity. From the South London roots of Lovers’ Rock to poetry, performance and creative writing, Sonic Cultures brings together different ways of exploring Black history and culture.

Imagined Worlds

Imagined Worlds returns to Calico Libraries this November. Join us at Forest Hill, Manor House, Sydenham and Crofton Park libraries for free events exploring science fiction, fantasy and the worlds we imagine.

Last year’s season launched our first creative writing competition, with the winning and commended stories published in In the Bag of Stars, the first Calico Press publication. Copies are available at all four libraries.

Community Studios

If you need a space for a one-off event, meeting, or to host a group or class, our community studios are available across multiple locations.

Calico Projects proudly manages four community-run libraries—Sydenham, Manor House, Forest Hill, and Crofton Park—which depend entirely on funding and studio rentals to keep their doors open.

Our events archive below showcases some of the events we have run in the past.
